The CERVO Brain Research Centre aims to unlock the mysteries of the brain.  A better understanding of this complex organ, containing one million billion connections, is the key that will allow to treat and prevent the diseases and disorders that affect the brain.  The CERVO Brain Research Centre, unique in Canada, is amongst the world leader as it uses an innovative multi-disciplinary approach, combining tools of physics, engineering and optics-photonics together with biological, psychiatric and clinical approaches to understand the brain.

High impact research

It is estimated that one in three person will be affected by a neurological disorder, a psychiatric disease, an injury to the nervous system or brain in their lifetime.  These disorders affect people of all ages and of all social circumstances, and as many are chronic in nature, they have profounds impacts on individuals, their families and society in general.  More than 100 diseases and conditions affect the brain and nervous system, and very few efficient treatments exist to alleviate the suffering of people they affect, and even fewer cures.

Recent scientific research has demonstrated the existence of commonalities in the mechanisms underlying these neurological disorders, findings that have been made possible, in part, by the development of new multidisciplinary investigation techniques.  The CERVO Brain Research Centre uses approaches combining the expertise of specialists from many disciplines, allowing our researchers to be at the forefront of research to understand the function, and dysfunction, of the brain.  These basic discoveries lead to the development of translational technologies, which allow us to take them from the laboratory to the clinic, to develop better ways to treat psychiatric diseases.

A research centre with accelerated growth

CERVO is the neuroscience and mental health research centre with the fastest growth in Canada over the last 15 years.

The CERVO Brain Research Centre is booming - we invite you to visit our website to learn more about our researchers and staff, who are the driving force of the centre, about our infrastructures, which are amongst the most technologically advanced, and about our research projects and initiatives. Bonne visite!
